How do you see the entire state of North Dakota in three days? Host six farm bill forums. From Ross to Cavalier to Hettinger and a few stops in between, people came out to express the importance of having a safety net in the farm programs. The ultimate joke among the panelists was which town had the best potato salad. My vote was for Beulah. The meetings were held in civic centers, a livestock barn and even a church.
The overall message from the attendees was protect crop insurance and disaster programs. Direct payments and counter cyclical payments could be cut, but protect the safety net, period. About 400 people came out to the events across the state. Great weather, conversation and food.
If you came to an event I’d love to hear your feedback.
